Remote Mongolia
Great swathes of Mongolia are a complete and barren wilderness and I was lucky enough to spend time in a small part of them in the far west, in the Altai Mountains on a fruitless but breathtaking search for snow leopards. Expansive scenery, mountains, unusual wildlife, long walks in utter silence down dried river beds and valleys, with only a full moon to show the way, completely alone apart from the local wolves. It was hard not to be humbled by the scenery and isolation in a harsh terrain.
